Associating a rule with a feature

Updated on April 5, 2022

Document which rules implement a feature to improve the traceability and extensibility of your application.

  1. In the header of Dev Studio, click the name of the application, and then click Overview.
  2. In the Features section, click the name of a feature.
  3. On the Associated rules tab, click + Add rule.
  4. In the Type field, press the Down Arrow key, and then select a rule type to narrow the list of rules that you can select.
  5. In the Name field, press the Down Arrow key, and then select the rule to associate with the feature.
Tip: To help you decide which rule to choose when there is more than one rule with the same name, enter a class name in the Applies to field to narrow the list of results.
Result: Your application manages the links among features, rules, and work items as you develop your application. When you create a rule by copying or specializing another rule, the links from the original rule to work items are copied to the new rule. Features that are linked to the original rule are not updated with a link to the new rule. When you delete, withdraw, or block a rule, the links to work items are removed. The links from features to the rule are also removed.
