Adding custom localizations in Web Messaging

Updated on December 15, 2023

You can upload additional custom translations for languages not supported by Digital Messaging Service, in the Web Messaging settings. This feature helps organizations to expand their services through the Web Messaging channel, reaching more diverse regions and languages.

Digital Messaging Service includes support for the following languages: Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin/Chinese (Simplified), Portuguese, Spanish, and Swedish. However, to cater to a broader audience, you can upload custom localizations for additional languages.

After you upload a custom localization, the system automatically localizes the corresponding labels in the Web Messaging widget using the custom language. The custom upload file contains key-value pairs, with the Web Messaging label and the relevant language as the column header. To learn more about the key-value pairs that you can localize, refer to the downloadable CSV file as described in step 4.

Note:
  • You can add custom localizations for languages that are not supported by default in Pega Platform, as well as for existing languages for which you want to replace the default localizations.
  • The Web Messaging widget will use your custom localizations instead of the default ones, for example, when you want to change the end_chat_button label in Italian or Spanish.
  • Avoid modifying or removing the default columns in the CSV file, unless you intend to replace the default values.
  • To use the real-time translation functionality, ensure that the Web Messaging widget has an appropriate localization, either through built-in support or by uploading a custom language to the system.
  1. In your Digital Messaging channel interface, click the Connection tab.
  2. Click Manage connections.
  3. In the Digital Messaging Manager window, edit your Web Messaging connection, and then click the Language tab.
  4. Optional: In the Web Messaging field localization section, click Download to download a custom localization template (CSV file).
  5. On your local drive, edit the template CSV file by defining labels in another language in a new column. Ensure you use the format and syntax of the custom localization template.
For example, you can add a localized translation for Bulgarian language, in the second column of the CSV file:
    Label Keybh-Bulgarian/Български
    powered_byЗадвижвано от
    powered_by_pegaЗадвижвано от PEGA
    are_you_sureСигурни ли сте?
end_chat_message Затварянето на чата ще прекрати тази чат сесия и вашата беседа вече няма да е налична.
    end_chat_button Край на чат сесията
    yesДа
    noНе
    stopСпри
Note: The system includes 169 values for localizing the Web Messaging widget.
  6. Click Choose File, from your local drive, select the CSV file that includes your custom translation, and then click Upload.
Result: The additional localization languages display in the Web Messaging field localization section.
For example:

The following figure shows additional custom languages, for example, Japanese and Mandarin, uploaded to the system using the WebMessagingLocalization.csv file:
