Embedding a chat window for the Legacy Webchat channel

Updated on July 4, 2023

Generate mashup code for your Legacy Webchat channel and embed it on an external website like a webpage. The webpage displays a chat window where users can interact with a Pega Platform application, for example, to obtain a list of commands or open a case.

Note: Pegasystems will sunset the Legacy Webchat servers on October 31, 2023. Legacy Webchat has been replaced with the Web Messaging channel from Digital Messaging. Legacy Webchat was deprecated in 8.6 and de-supported in 8.7. Legacy Webchat is not supported for 8.7 and has not been tested. To learn how to migrate to Web Messaging, see Migrating from Legacy Webchat to Web Messaging.
Before you begin: Create a Legacy Webchat channel and obtain access to a web page for which you will embed the mashup code for a Legacy Webchat channel. For more information, see Creating a Legacy Webchat channel.

To generate the mashup code for a website, specify a URL address for your Pega Platform application so that the system knows where to connect during a chat conversation.

Note: Generate the mashup code again and embed it on a website, if you change any Legacy Webchat channel settings, for example, the URL for your Pega Platform application.
  1. In the navigation pane of App Studio, click Channels.
  2. In the Current channel interfaces section, click the icon that represents your existing Legacy Webchat channel.
  3. In the Legacy Webchat channel interface, click the Mashup tab.
  4. In the Mashup URL field, enter the URL for your Pega Platform application.
    For example: https://sample.pega.com:443/prweb/app/sampleapp_1234
  5. Click Save, and then click Generate.
  6. Copy and save the generated code from the Mashup code text area, for example, click Copy to clipboard.
  7. Embed the mashup code from step 6 on a webpage that will be used as an IVA for Legacy Webchat.
What to do next: Style the IVA for Legacy Webchat to fit the needs and requirements of your organization. For more information, see Customizing the Legacy Webchat channel.
