Unit testing a Parse XML rule

Updated on April 6, 2022

You can test a Parse XML rule directly, separate from the activity or other context in your application in which it ultimately operates.

Before you begin:
  1. Create a Parse XML rule. For more information, see Creating a Parse XML rule.
  2. Review the basics of unit testing. For more information, see Unit testing individual rules.
For a simple test, obtain an XML document containing test data. You can choose to type or paste the data into a form, store it in a local Windows file, or upload it into a text file rule.
  1. Save the Parse XML rule that you want to unit test.
  2. Click ActionsRun.
Result: A guided test window opens.
  3. Select a radio button to indicate the source of test data.
  4. If the data is to be entered directly, type or paste the data into the text area.
  5. If the data is in a local file, click Choose File and navigate to the file. Then, click Open.
  6. If the test data is in a text file rule, enter all three key parts of the rule separated by periods.
  7. Click Execute to evaluate the rule.
Result: An XML document is displayed in a new window, showing properties and the corresponding parsed values. The clipboard is not altered; no properties are updated.
