Using the Data Import wizard

Updated on April 6, 2022

If your organization stores its data in spreadsheets, you can easily import that data into your Pega Platform application by using the Data Import wizard. You can import data from a variety of sources, even if they use different field names or types. During the import process, you configure how to process the data, and map the fields in the source .csv file or .xlsx file to the fields in your data object, without manually developing rules.

With the Data Import wizard, you can efficiently migrate large data sets into your application, and use the data to build automated digital business processes. You can also add data import widgets to your dashboard to view the details of completed imports or imports that are currently in progress.

Note: When importing data records through the Data Import wizard, Pega Platform does not create or add History instances for each individual record because of performance implications.

Use the following topics to guide you through the process of importing your data.

  • Importing data from a file

To add data to your data model more quickly, import data from a .csv file.

  • Applying business logic when importing data

Transform data to values that are understood by Pega Platform using business logic during file import instead of manually transforming data in a preprocessing activity. Add decision trees, decision tables, and lookups to transform your data.

  • Troubleshooting import errors

To improve the quality of your application, resolve any errors in the data that you import.

  • Customizing the import process

Eliminate the need to manually manipulate the data by adding preprocessing, post processing, and business logic to the import process. You can add, update, or delete data records for your data types in Data Designer by uploading .csv files that contain a large number of records.
