Managing Cassandra as a store for decisioning data

Updated on July 5, 2022

When you operate your application in an on-premises or client-managed cloud environment, you need to install and operate an external Cassandra cluster, and connect it to Pega Platform as the underlying storage system for the Decision Data Store.

It is also possible to configure a Decision Data Store node cluster that uses a Cassandra database in embedded mode. However, this option is deprecated starting from Pega Platform version 8.6 and therefore does not ensure future compatibility. For more information, see Deprecated support for Pega Platform deployments on embedded Cassandra.

Note: In Pega Cloud environments, Pega configures and maintains the Cassandra database for you. No action is required.

The following chapter provides guidelines for on-premises and client-managed cloud environments on how to manage, maintain, and run Cassandra nodes as a repository for analytical data. It also provides procedures for optimizing Cassandra operations and lists the tools that you can use to perform such optimizations in Pega Platform and outside.

Information on Pega alerts for Cassandra applies to any type of environment.
