Rule selected for revision management in an application overlay contains errors

Updated on July 5, 2022

When you try to create or update an application overlay by selecting rules for revision management, you might see errors caused by missing rules.

Cause

When you create or update an application overlay in Dev Studio, the rules that you select for revision management are saved into a new version of the application ruleset. Rules that are part of the application overlay might have been modified (edited or deleted from your application). Edits to the rules might cause compilation issues depending on the rule types that were included in the application overlay. For example, a data flow that you want to make available for revision management in your application overlay request might reference a rule instance that was deleted:

A missing rule causes an error during on application overlay update
An error for an application overlay indicates that the Top Offer strategy rule is missing in the Sample Batch Run data flow.

Solution

System architect
  1. In Dev Studio, open the rule instances that caused the error to determine whether they might have been deleted.
  2. In the rule forms, click Check out and Save.
  3. Investigate error messages or compilation issues and fix them.
  4. If you still see errors or have other issues, save the rules into a new version of the application ruleset.
Sometimes, saving the rules into a new version of the application ruleset will resolve issues that you have when adding the rules to an application overlay.
