Prioritizing data flow runs

Updated on May 17, 2024

Secure the most optimal use of system resources by indicating the relative importance (priority) of each data run. The system automatically performs or queues data flow runs according to the set priorities and activation times, limited by the maximum number of active runs.

By designating data flow run priority, you can ensure that the system automatically assigns resources to the most important data flow run first, overriding the activation time of the run. To learn how to set the maximum number of data flows that can run simultaneously, see Limiting active data flow runs.

  1. In the header of Dev Studio, click ConfigureDecisioningDecisionsData Flows.
  2. Open the data flow that you want to run by clicking the run's ID.
  3. In the Priority list, select the importance level for the run
The default priority level for all data flow runs is Medium. You choose the priority level when associating a data flow with the run:
Choosing a priority level for a data flow run
Part of the data flow work item tab that shows a list of available priority levels for a run.
  4. Click Submit.
Result: The data flow is added to the data flows landing page. The system executes data flow runs with regard to their priority level and activation time. High priority runs take precedence over medium and low priority runs. The activation time is the secondary factor that determines the order in which the system performs the runs. The following figure shows a number of data flow runs with different priority levels and activation times. The system queued the runs according to their importance:
Data flow landing page with dynamic resource management of data flow runs
Data flows landing page showing multiple data flow runs with different priority levels and in different stages of completion.
