What are the components and features of an Enterprise Identity Management system?  The centralized ID management component enables corporations to maintain credentials in a single place, which provides for a single point of integration.

The identity federation component enables users to securely access data or systems across multiple domains seamlessly.  Identity federation reduces cost by eliminating the need to manage proprietary security solutions.  It increases security by enabling an organization to identify and authenticate a user once, and then use that identity information across multiple systems.

The centralized policy based authentication and authorization component ensures that policy enforcement is consistent and comprehensive across the enterprise. The audit capabilities of the administration component makes sure corporations comply with regulations and standards for consumer information protection and privacy, such as HIPPAA and Sarbanes-Oxley.

The Web Access Management component simplifies access management and single sign-on (SSO) for Web and J2EE application environments.

Why do you need to know about Enterprise Identity Management and Single Sign-On?  Because you will run across this at virtually every customer project.  No commercial operation wants to employ different security solutions for each web application.  Pegasystems’ target customer base is fortune 500 companies in the US and across the globe.  These corporations very likely have an Identity Management or SSO solution in place that they will want PegaRULES to integrate with.
