Reusing forms

Updated on April 5, 2022

You can reduce development time and maintain consistent layouts between sets of fields in your case type by embedding forms in other forms. For example, you can prompt users to review their employment history by embedding their Work History form in a Confirmation form.

  1. In the navigation pane of App Studio, click Case types, and then click the case type that you want to open.

  2. On the Workflow tab, click Life cycle.

  3. In the Case life cycle section, click an assignment or an approval step.

  4. In the Step properties panel, click Configure view.

  5. In the dialog window, click Views.

  6. Click Add view next to the view that you want to reuse.

  7. Optional:

To view or edit the form that you want to reuse, click Open.

  8. In the Options list, choose an edit mode for the reused form:

    • To maintain the individual setting for each field on the form, select Auto.

Fields can be read-only, required, or optional.

    • To display all the fields as read only, select Read-only.
  9. Click Submit.

  • Restrictions on field and form reuse

You can reference an existing field or form when you build a new form. By reusing components in your application, you save time and avoid duplication.

  • Adding single-value fields to forms

Collect specific information from users when they process a case by adding a single-value field to a form. For example, you can add a field that references a phone number to a form that prompts users to enter their personal and address details.

  • Supported display modes by field type

The following table lists the display modes that are supported by each field type. You select a display mode when you add a single-value field to a form. By default, all fields have a display mode set to Optional.
