Enhancing mobile apps

Updated on November 9, 2021

Increase the usability and improve the user engagement of your mobile app by enabling and implementing features that ensure a modern mobile experience. You can customize your mobile app and tailor it to both your business needs, and the needs of the users.

You can configure the theme and branding of your mobile app to match the design guidelines of your company, or extend the app's functionality with user engagement features, such as push notifications.

For example: The uPlus company has a stand-alone mobile app that their employees use to submit and manage expense reports. The company wants to change the theme to match the latest redesign of the company's branding, increase user engagement, and make the expense report review process more efficient. As a uPlus developer, you can change the icon and color scheme to match the company's branding. You can also configure push notifications for Android and iOS versions of the mobile app, to help users communicate more effectively and provide them with a way to approve, reject, or open work items without having to launch the mobile app.
  • Setting up mobile apps

Create a mobile channel to configure, customize, and generate your mobile app. For example, you can set up a mobile channel for an expense reporting application, to build a mobile app that supports users who work away from their desks.

  • Adding content to mobile apps

Enhance the content of your mobile app by managing the out-of-the-box user interface pages or adding custom ones. For example, you can create a native page with a list of pending expense reports that managers can process. You can further improve the user experience in your mobile app by implementing native components, such as mobile search or a floating action button.

  • Previewing mobile apps

Before you generate an executable file for your mobile app, verify that the pages and layout correspond with your design, and that the application logic functions in line with your expectations. Use a mobile device with the Pega Mobile Preview app to preview a mobile channel that you configure for an application.

  • Applying a custom theme to mobile apps

Match the branding guidelines or project requirements of your company by customizing the theme of your mobile app. For example, you can upload custom image assets to change the icon and logo of your mobile app, or adjust the color theme of UI elements, such as the header or background of the app.

  • Engaging mobile users with push notifications

Improve user engagement and experience in your mobile app with automatic push notifications about meaningful events in your business processes. For example, you can use push notifications to notify the users that they must perform an action in a case, such as approve or reject an expense request.

  • Enhancing a mobile app with the native header

Standardize the user experience in your mobile apps by adding the native header for a custom mobile page. By using the native header in your app, you provide users with a responsive interface that is consistent across native apps and different devices. For example, users can navigate to the previous view by using the native back button for Android apps or a swipe right gesture for iOS apps.
