Disabling processing of attachments and signatures in offline mode

Updated on February 23, 2022

Improve the performance of your offline-enabled mobile app by disabling the processing of attachments and signatures. For example, if you know that your app users do not need to work with any attachments in offline mode, you can disable attachment support.

Before you begin: Add a case type to your offline-enabled app. For more information, see Enabling case processing in offline-enabled mobile apps.
By default, when you add a case type to your offline configuration, users of offline-enabled apps can view, add, and delete attachments in cases. The app downloads all attachments to the mobile device during data synchronization. However, processing a lot of attachments significantly increases the duration of data synchronization and requires more space in the device storage. If your offline users can work without attachments or you notice that data synchronization uses a lot of server resources due to the number of attachments, you can disable attachment processing or disable attachment caching in offline mode.
Default attachment options for an offline-enabled case type
Configuration of an offline-enabled case type with enabled attachment support
  1. Open your mobile channel:
    1. In the header of Dev Studio, click the name of the application, and then click Channels and interfaces.
    2. In the Current channel interfaces section, click the tile that represents a mobile channel for your app.
  2. On the mobile channel page, on the Configuration tab, click the Offline category.
  3. In the Case type section, next to the case type for which you want to modify the attachment settings, click the Edit configuration icon.
  4. In the case type configuration dialog box, determine how you want to disable attachment and signature support in your offline-enabled app by performing one of the following actions:
    • To disable caching and viewing of attachments and signatures that are not created on the mobile device when offline, clear the Cache attachments for offline use check box.
Note: At run time, offline users can create new attachments on their device, but the app displays a prompt to go online when the users attempt to open an existing attachment.
    • To completely disable the processing of attachments and signatures, clear the Allow use of attachments check box.
  5. In the dialog box, click OK.
  6. On the mobile channel rule form, click Save.
