What's new in Process Commander V5.3 - BPM and BRE enhancements
Released in July 2007, Process Commander V5.3 offers dozens of new capabilities for developers, application users, and system administrators, and resolves issues found in earlier versions. For an overview, see What's new in Process Commander 5.3.
Five features expand the ability to support business process management objectives by enabling capabilities that improve the overall business process:
- Improved bulk processing
- Rule redirection
- Request assistance flow
- Skill-based routing and notification support
- Rule-Utility-Function to identify Party Class
Improved Bulk Processing
Managers can bulk-transfer assignments from a worklist to a workbasket, or vice versa. Similarly, they can apply one flow action to all assignments in a workbasket or worklist. These features are available from the My Process Actions area of the Process Work workspace (in the WorkUser portal).
If dozens or hundreds of assignments are to be updated by a single flow action, the manager can cause bulk processing to occur in the background (by the Pega-ProCom agent). When processing completes, the agent sends the user an e-mail message summarizing the results.
Rule Redirection
In decision tree, decision table and map value rules, you can redirect a circumstanced rule to another circumstanced instance of the same rule. This reduces the number of rules that you need to maintain (though not the number you need to create).
When the Redirect this Rule check box (on the Results tab) is selected, the system at runtime ignores information on the Decision tab, using instead information on the Decision tab of the target rule.
For example, if a circumstance property identifies a state code (within the 50 United States states), then you need a base rule plus 50 circumstance-qualified rules, one for each state. However, if the circumstance-qualified rules for New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts are the same, you can maintain only the Massachusetts rule and use the redirection feature in the New York and New Jersey rules.
Request Assistance Flow
Your application can support a simple collaboration or discussion among operators. Discussion entries are saved to a work object as note attachments. This feature uses a standard flow rule named Work-.RequestAssistance and a corresponding flow action rule named Work-.RequestAssistance.
Skill-Based Routing and Notification support
A new standard function getAvailableSkilledOperators( ) allows routing logic to pick the best operator from the list
The new standard activity Work-.NotifyAllAssignees sends e-mail correspondence to all the operators listed in the Contacts array of a workbasket. The standard activity Work-.NotifyAssignee, which notifies only the first-listed operator, remains available.
New Rule-Utility-Function returns party class
The new function getPartyClass() returns the class of a work party. This fact was more difficult to obtain in previous releases.
