Training "Question of the Week", March 24th, 2008

Updated on November 15, 2015

Question
Our customers typically have hundreds if not thousands of employees, each of whom may use PRPC. Do we have to manually create and manage an Operator ID for each PRPC operator or does PRPC have an integrated tool or support mass creation and management of PRPC Operator IDs via LDAP and/or dynamic authentication?

Answer by Bruce Tanenholtz
Operator IDs can be automatically generated if integration with LDAP has been accomplished. When configured through PRPC, an LDAP server can essentially do the following:

  1. Create an Operator ID form based on a "model" operator identified on a Unit form.
  2. Update any attribute stored in LDAP which has been mapped to attributes on Operator ID forms within PRPC. This is accomplished upon login of the user to PRPC.
  3. Perform a lookup of the related Unit instance
LDAP integration is discussed and accomplished in the System Administration course.
