Mapping applications and websites

Updated on May 5, 2021

To support focused data analysis, classify the applications and websites that Pega Workforce Intelligence detects.

As an example, you might classify certain social media websites as Non Work so that you can better track time that associates (data collectors) spend in this category. The following color-coded categories are available for you to use for classification.

ColorCategoryDescriptionExamples
ProductionClassifies applications and websites as production-related work.Pega Sales Automation CRM system
Other WorkClassifies applications and websites as other work, such as internal applications.Internal HR system or Microsoft Word
Non WorkClassifies applications and websites as not work-related.Facebook or Pinterest
UnknownUsed for applications and websites that have not been mapped to one of the other categories.

You can place applications and websites into any category you want and later move them from one category to another if necessary. If you move an application or website from one category to another, Workforce Intelligence shows the application in both categories if the time period that you are viewing spans the change.

For example, if time is accumulated in a spreadsheet application as Other Work on Monday and Tuesday, and then you move that application to Production on Wednesday, when looking at the activity for the week, you see the spreadsheet in both the Other Work and Production categories with the applicable time noted.

  • Using the Application Administration page

Review parts of the Application Administration page so that you can use it to map applications and verify the mapping.

  • Mapping items

You can map applications, website URLs, and custom Off Computer Reason Codes from the Unknown category to a descriptive category for analysis and reporting. You can also move an item from one category to another.

  • Changing the display name

Make reports and charts easier to read by updating the default names of items, such as Off Computer Reason Codes, to friendly names that you can easily identify. By default, Pega Workforce Intelligence displays the actual name of the item, such as an executable, a URL, or an Off Computer Reason Code, in the Display Name field, but you can change these values.

  • Enabling and disabling applications and websites

Capture relevant information as the tools of your workforce change by enabling or disabling applications or websites.

  • Assigning opportunity and workflow tags

Assign opportunity tags to help you more quickly identify various types of opportunities, such as excessive use of instant messaging, time spent in legacy applications, or time spent documenting activities that could instead be automatically generated. You assign begin and end workflow tags to define where workflows start and stop. For more information, see Adding workflow tags.

  • Tagging virtual applications

To ensure accuracy in reports, assign the Virtual_Desktop tag to the virtual machine applications that you use.
