Enabling learning from own-channel models for the Paid channel

Updated on August 3, 2022

You can enable surrogate adaptive models for paid media while the Paid-specific models mature.

Pega Customer Decision Hub Paid Media Manager User Guide
Channel-specific adaptive models in Pega Customer Decision Hub learn from the outcomes of recorded customer interactions, to help the models make predictions about customer behavior and guide the next-best-action strategy to present the most relevant actions to each customer on each channel. To ensure that the models have enough data to make accurate predictions, adaptive models for individual channels are not considered mature until they have recorded a specific number of responses. Immature models are not used to drive decisions – instead, the action selection is randomized for strategies that use an immature model.

As with any new channel, when you implement Paid Media Manager for the first time, the Paid-specific adaptive models are not yet mature enough to drive next best actions. If you already have mature adaptive models for other engagement channels, for example, Web, you can use them to inform the paid channels while the paid models mature.

Note: In the current version of Pega Customer Decision Hub version 8.6, the paid-specific models are disabled by default because of performance impact. For more information, see Known issues in Pega Customer Decision Hub 8.6 and Enabling learning from Paid-specific models for the Paid channel.

To enable the surrogate adaptive model for the Paid channel, perform the following steps:

  1. Log in to Pega Customer Decision Hub as an operator with access to Dev Studio.
  2. In Dev Studio, in the left navigation pane, click RecordsDecision Data.
  3. Find and open the BusinessControlSettings DDR that is in your implementation ruleset.
  4. Click Check out.
  5. Click New.
  6. Enter the following information:
    • Name - Paid Media Surrogate Channel
    • Model Name - NBA
    • SettingName - PaidMediaLearningChannel
    • SettingValue - <Direction>|<Channel>, for example, Inbound|Web
Sample configuration with Web as the surrogate channel
Sample values for the surrogate channel configuration.
  7. Click Create.
  8. Save and check in the changes to the BusinessControlSettings DDR.
What to do next: After the Paid model has received enough responses to be considered mature, you can disable the surrogate channel by editing the BusinessControlSettings DDR and removing the Paid Media Surrogate Channel proposition.
