How Process Commander assembles a RuleSet List in a User Profile

Summary

During sign-on, Process Commander assembles a user’s RuleSet list based on the current access group of that user.  The access group references an application rule, and perhaps list some production RuleSets.

The user’s RuleSet list will consist of all the RuleSets from the application, and be limited to the production RuleSets available in the access group.

 

Suggested Approach

Users may have rights to multiple access groups (see How to provide user access to applications using access groups), although only one access group will be enabled at a time.  The user will only have access to the one application specified in the current access group; if a user wishes to work in a different application, they can open that application on their desktop (see How users process work items from multiple applications).   This will switch the user’s access group to the one specifying that application. 

For each application, Process Commander creates a full application RuleSet based on the Application rule definition, which includes any required prerequisite applications.  (See How Process Commander Assembles an Application RuleSet List.) When you log into Process Commander using your default access group, Process Commander will assemble your RuleSet List based on the RuleSets from the application specified in your access group. 

Production RuleSets are specified in the application rule:

Some or all of these production RuleSets may be listed in your access group:

Note that not all the production RuleSets listed in the application are included in the access group (since this access group is for developers, they don't get the Managers production RuleSet) .   Users will only have access to the production RuleSets in their access group, not all those listed in the application rule.

The RuleSet List in your profile, therefore, includes all the RuleSets except for the production RuleSets in the application rule specified by your current access group – only the production RuleSets in the access group are included.

Switching the RuleSet List in the Profile

You can change the application you are working with in two ways:

  • Open a different application by using the application drop-down
  • Open an assignment for a work object that belongs to a different application

The RuleSets for the newly-opened application will replace the RuleSets for the default application; they will not be added to the prior list.  This prevents RuleSet List order problems if two applications are built on one or more of the same RuleSets.

Example

When Mary Manager first signs onto Process Commander, she defaults to the RulePRO II application:

Her User Profile reflects the RuleSets for that application:

If she changes the application to Smart Case Manager (by using the dropdown), however, her Profile changes accordingly:
