Express applications
Express applications are small-scale business solutions that are rapidly designed and developed in the Pega 7 Express environment. You create an express application for yourself or for another person by running the New Application wizard. Express applications are well-suited for new users because they provide just-in-time learning and gradually introduce the features and functionality in the Pega 7 Platform.
Steps in the New Application wizard
When you create an express application for yourself, a new access group is added to your Operator ID form. You can explore express mode by switching to your express application and enabling application editing. The ability to switch to other portals, including Designer Studio, and applications from within express mode is controlled by your Access Group form and Operator ID form.
The following video demonstrates how you can switch to express mode, start a guided tour, enable application editing, and switch back to Designer Studio.
When you create an express application for another person, a new operator is created (if one does not already exist) and credentials are sent in an email invitation. Invited users develop in express mode exclusively and can switch to the Case Manager or Case Worker portals, but not to Designer Studio.

The ruleset and class structures that are generated for express applications support the future conversion of your express application to an enterprise application. If you are switching between Designer Studio and express mode as you develop an application, keep in mind that some features that are functional in express mode cannot be edited in express mode.
