Optional: Enabling new UI kit and Cosmos features

Updated on February 9, 2022

To take advantage of the latest user interface elements, including templates and icons, add the latest version of the UI Kit or Theme-Cosmos application to the Built On Applications List. You can still continue to use your current version of the UI Kit or Theme-Cosmos to avoid additional post-update steps, but then you will not have access to the latest features, functions, and fixes.

Each new release of Pega Platform ships with all the versions of UI Kit provided in previous releases.

Updating to a new version of UI Kit or Theme-Cosmos is a development effort. The UI layer is updated every release to stay in sync with the changes in the design system. Therefore, the new UI Kit or Cosmos rules may not be backward compatible with applications that currently use an older version of the UI Kit. For example, after updating to the latest versions of these core UI layers, some of the color, styling or default behaviors of your application might change and some of the override CSS and sections from your current UI Kit may need to be refactored and modified. The effort is similar to adopting and using a new feature.

For information about how to update to the latest version of the UI Kit application, see Updating the UI kit in your application.
