Installing a sample application for Pega Marketing for Communications 8.4

After you install Pega Marketing™ for Communications, you can set up a sample application, for example, to test rules and features which are for demonstration purposes only.

Install and configure the Pega Marketing for Communications sample application by performing the following actions:

  1. Import a sample application
  2. Connect to other applications
  3. Change a sample application in the PegaNBAM:Agents access group
  4. Configure the context dictionary settings
  5. Configure authentication profiles
  6. Verify decision management nodes
  7. Configure additional features for your sample application:
    1. Configure outbound email
    2. Configure the Short Message Service Center channel
    3. Check Segments
    4. Train adaptive models
  8. Test the installation

Import a sample application

Import the sample Pega Marketing for Communications application to access additional data, for example, sample client list and use cases that you can test later.

  1. Log in to your application in one of the following ways:
    • If you are using the implementation application, log in with the credentials of your implementation application.
    • If you are using the Pega Marketing for Communications application, log in with operator credentials.
      See Logging in with operator credentials.
  2. In the header of Dev Studio, click Configure > Application > Distribution > Import.
  3. On the Import Wizard tab, browse for and select the Resourcekit\PegaMarketingForCommunicationsSample.jar file from your distribution media.

  4. Ensure that you import all components by clearing the Enable advanced mode to provide granular control over the import process check box.

  5. Complete the import by following the installation wizard.

Log in with operator credentials

 To log in to your Pega Marketing for Communications application using operator credentials, complete the following steps:

  1. Log in with the default administrator credentials.
  2. Create an operator with access to the PegaMKTComms:MarketAdmins group.
    For more information, see Creating operator IDs and Fields for operator contact information and application access.
    Note: The Pega Marketing for Communications sample application provides its own access groups, for example, PMCSample:Administrators or PMCSample:Analysts.
  3. Log out of your application, and then log back in as the operator of your access group.

Connect to other applications

To activate the enhanced functionality of the Pega Marketing for Communications application, connect your sample application to the Product Catalog and the Customer Decision Hub™ application by updating the corresponding dynamic system settings.

  1. Log in to your application by entering the administrator operator ID of the sample implementation application.
  2. In the navigation pane of Dev Studio, click Records > SysAdmin > Dynamic System Settings.
  3. In the list of dynamic system settings, update the system URLs:
    • Replace the ConnectProductCatalogURL with the Pega Product Catalog URL in the http://hostname:port format.
    • Replace the ConnectMKTURL with the Customer Decision Hub URL in the http://hostname:port format.
    • Replace the microsite/URL with the microsite URL in the http://hostname:port/prweb/IAC format.
      where:
      hostname is the IP address of the device on which the application is installed
      port is the configured port number.

Change a sample application in the PegaNBAM:Agents access group

Update the PegaNBAM:Agents access group to associate it with the Pega Marketing for Communications sample application.

  1. Log in to your application by entering the administrator operator ID of the sample implementation application.
  2. In the navigation pane of Dev Studio, clickRecords > Security > Access Group.
  3. Click the PegaNBAM:Agents access group.
  4. On the Definition tab, in the Application section, enter the application data:
    1. In the Name field, enter PegaMarketingForCommunications_Sample.
    2. In the Version field, enter the number of the latest supported version, for example, 8.
  5. Click Save.

Configure the context dictionary settings

Configure the context dictionary settings to update the Pega Marketing for Communications sample application.

  1. Log in to your application by entering the administrator operator ID of the sample implementation application.
  2. In the navigation pane of App Studio, clickSettings > Context dictionary.
  3. On the Definition tab, click the Edit icon next to the name of the ruleset, and then configure the dictionary settings:
    1. In the Name field, enter PegaMKTCommsSample-Artifacts.
    2. In the Version field, enter the ruleset version in the major release-minor release-patch release format, for example, 08-04-01.
  4. Click Apply.
  5. In the Save Context Dictionary dialog box, click Save.
  6. After the system saves the changes, verify the status of the operation:
    • If no error messages are displayed, click Save.
    • If error messages are displayed, resolve the errors, and then click Save.

Configure authentication profiles

Integrate Pega Marketing for Communications with Pega Foundation for Communications and Pega Customer Service™ for Communications by modifying the Pega Marketing for Communications authentication profiles.

  1. Log in to your application by entering the administrator operator ID of the sample implementation application.
  2. In the navigation pane of Dev Studio, click Records > Security > Authentication Profile.
  3. On the Authentication Profile tab, click CIF_AuthProfile.
  4. If not created already, create the CFFCaseManger operator ID:
    1. In the navigation pane of Dev Studio, click Records > Organization > Operator ID.
    2. Click Create.
    3. In the Operator ID field, enter CFFCaseManager.
    4. Click Create and open.
    5. In the Application Access section, in the Access Group field, enter CFF:Administrators.
    6. On the Security tab, click Update password.
    7. Set the password for the CFFCaseManager operator, and then click Submit.
    8. Click Save.
  5. On the CIF_AuthProfile tab, configure the profile:
    1. In the User name field, enter the CFFCaseManager operator ID.
    2. Click Set password.
    3. In the Password field, provide the same password as the one that you created in the operator ID rule.
    4. Click Submit.
  6. Repeat step 2 to step 5 for the following profiles: 
    1. For the PCFAuthProfile, enter the PCFDeveloper operator ID, and then assign that operator to the PCF:Administrators access role.
    2. For the PMCAuthProfile, enter the analyst@pmcsample operator ID, and then assign that operator to the PMCSample:MarketAnalysts access role.

Verify decision management nodes

Ensure that the decision management nodes have the NORMAL status to monitor performance and to troubleshoot problemsFor more information, see Monitoring Decision Management services.

Configure outbound email

To update communication with customers through the email channel, configure the outbound email settings.

  1. In the navigation pane of App Studio, click Settings > Channels.
  2. On the Email tab, in the list of email accounts, click Default.
  3. In the Account Name column, update the configuration details for the default email account with your user ID, password, connection port, and host (SMTP).
  4. Click Save.
  5. Verify the connection to the email server by clicking Test Connectivity.

Configure the Short Message Service Center channel

Update SMS communication with customers through the Short Message Service Center (SMSC) channel. For more information, see "Configuring an Inbound SMS Account" and "Configuring an Outbound SMS Account" in the Pega Marketing User Guide on the Pega Marketing product page.

Check segments

The Pega Marketing for Communications sample application provides an AllCustomers segment that you can populate with the current set of customers or modify to suit your business needs. For more information, see "Segments" in the Pega Marketing User Guide on the Pega Marketing product page.

Train adaptive models

Train the adaptive models to use Pega Marketing for Communications and next-best-action data by populating the data flows of your Pega Marketing for Communications sample application.

  1. Log in to your application by entering the administrator operator ID of the sample implementation application.
  2. In the header of Dev Studio, clickConfigure > Decisioning > Model Management.
  3. Click the TrainPMCHoldingsModel data flow.
  4. On the TrainPMCHoldingsModel data flow tab, click Actions > Run.
  5. Ensure that the operation finishes:
  6. Click the NextBestActionDF data flow. 
  7. On the NextBestActionDF data flow tab, click Actions > Run.
  8. Ensure that the operation finishes:

Test the installation

Verify the successful completion of the installation process.

  1. Launch the Pega Marketing portal.
  2. Click Configuration > Profile preferences, and then click Manage categories.
  3. Ensure that a list of sample categories is displayed.
  4. Ensure that Pega Marketing for Communications sample customer data is visible in Next-Best-Action Advisor for Communications:
    • If next best actions and offers are displayed in Next-Best-Action Advisor for Communications, the installation is finished.
    • If next best actions and offers do not display in Next-Best-Action Advisor for Communications, install the SampleDB\PegaCRMCDML.jar file, available with the Pega Customer Relationship Management for Communications build.
