Running the Pega Customer Decision Hub setup wizard

Updated on May 30, 2022

Automate the initial steps in creating your Pega Customer Decision Hub implementation application by using the Pega Customer Decision Hub setup wizard. Preconfigure your application using best-practice industry templates and set up the Pega 1:1 Operations Manager application for change management.

When you run the Pega Customer Decision Hub setup wizard, you configure the following components and settings:

  • Next-Best-Action Designer configuration, supporting standard business issues
  • Data model for your customer class and context dictionary
  • Change management, including the Pega 1:1 Operations Manager application
  • Repository for exporting interactions and decisions
  • Organization name

When you run the Pega Customer Decision Hub setup wizard, you can skip the steps that configure the Next-Best-Action Designer, data model, and repository. However, you need to complete these configuration steps manually later. To save time and effort, it is recommended to configure these components through the Pega Customer Decision Hub setup wizard.

Caution: If a Pega Customer Decision Hub application already exists in your system, running the Pega Customer Decision Hub setup wizard overwrites some of the existing application settings. This will cause issues with your existing application. Having more than one active Pega Customer Decision Hub application on the same Pega Platform instance is not supported. This includes custom applications built by you, and sample applications provided by Pega.
Note: If you want to test the setup wizard, before you run it in your system, perform the following challenge on Pega Academy: Running Pega Customer Decision Hub setup wizard. To learn more about the setup wizard, see Pega Customer Decision Hub setup wizard.
Before you begin: Complete the requirements for implementing Pega Customer Decision Hub. For more information, see Prerequisites for Pega Customer Decision Hub.
  1. Log in to Dev Studio as the system architect operator in the CDHTemplate:CDHInstall access group.
Result: The system launches the Pega Customer Decision Hub setup wizard.
  2. In the Choose your industry to start the application setup step, perform one of the following actions:
    • To use a best practice template for your industry, select one of the industry tiles, for example, Communications or Financial services.
    • If a template for your industry is not available or you want to define the data model and Next-Best-Action Designer configuration manually, click Other.

    • Change management, including the Pega 1:1 Operations Manager application
  3. If you selected Other, perform the following actions:
    1. In the Data model configuration step, upload the xCAR data model for your industry from the Pega Marketplace or your own data model, and then click Next.
You can skip this step, and then configure the data model later.
    2. In the Next-Best-Action Designer configuration step, upload a template from the Pega Marketplace or your own template, and then click Next.
You can skip this step, and then configure the Next-Best-Action Designer later. This wizard section is not displayed if you skipped the data model configuration in step 3.a.
    3. In the Enable change management step, review the information, and then click Next.
  4. In the Select a repository field, select a decision repository to store exported interactions and decisions.
    Note:

You can skip this step and select the decision repository later in your application settings.

If your application is deployed in a environment, select pegacloudrepository. This repository is preconfigured for you as part of the Pega Cloud File Storage solution and intended for SFTP file transfers.

  5. Click Next.
  6. In the What's your organization name field, enter or select the name of your organization, and then click Next.
The organization name is used to properly name artifacts in your Pega Customer Decision Hub application.
Note: In Pega Cloud deployments, if the organization name was configured earlier, this wizard step is not displayed.
  7. In the Review your configuration step, review your configuration before starting the process to set up your Pega Customer Decision Hub application.
Note: The automated process is not reversible and can take up to 30 minutes

In the following example, the configuration includes the Retail Banking template, which provides a best-practice data model and Next-Best-Action Designer template for financial services. The decision repository and the organization name are also selected.

  10. If a failure occurs during the setup process, resolve the issue, and then rerun the setup wizard:
    1. Click Download log, and then review the information about the failure.
    2. Ask the system administrator to resolve the failure.
    3. After the failure is resolved, log in to the application again as the system architect operator in the CDHTemplate:CDHInstall access group.
Result: The setup wizard resumes at the Review your configuration step. Depending on the failure type, the setup wizard restores the setup process to the point of the last failure:
      • Pega Customer Decision Hub and Pega 1:1 Operations Manager application failures revert all the artifacts to the out-of-the-box functionality.
      • A data model failure reverts all the classes and artifacts generated with the data model process.
      • Any error that occurs when saving the context dictionary reverts all the changes for classes and other artifacts.
      • An overlay application failure deletes the application overlay and reverts the application stack to the point before its creation. All the access groups that were created will point to the Pega 1:1 Operations Manager implementation application.
  11. Click Open Customer Decision Hub.
  12. In the Pega Customer Decision Hub portal, perform the following actions:
    1. Review the data model for your customer class and context dictionary.
    2. Review the Next-Best-Action Designer configuration.
    3. Verify access to Revision Manager.
    4. Verify access to the Pega 1:1 Operations Manager application.
