Configuring application settings for push notifications

Use the Push Notifications landing page to manage push notifications for Android and iOS apps. To access the page, in App Studio, click SettingsChannelsPush Notifications

Using the Applications tab

The Applications tab on the Push Notifications landing page allows you to:

  • Configure new apps for receiving push notifications
  • View details of existing apps and their variants
  • Perform actions on apps, such as adding new variants
  • Perform actions on app variants, such as testing push notification delivery

The list of configured apps contains the following columns:

Column HeadingDescription
Application NameDisplays the name of the app.
DescriptionDisplays the description of the app.
Default?Denotes (through a check mark) whether this is the default app for push notifications.
ActionsProvides the Actions menu with the following actions:
  • Edit - Perform this action to update the app's name or description.
  • Add Variant - Perform this action to add a new variant for this app. Refer to the Configuring a new app section below.
  • Make Default - Perform this action to make this app the default app for push notifications.

The expand pane for an app displays the configured variants for the app. The list of app variants contains the following columns:

Column HeadingDescription
TypeDisplays the platform of the app variant.
App Variant IDDisplays the unique identifier for the app variant.
ActionsProvides the Actions menu with the following actions:
  • Edit - Perform this action to update the details of the app variant.
  • Test - Perform this action to test the push notification functionality with this app variant.

    In the Test Variant dialog, provide a value for the Test Push Token and click Test to send a test push notification message to the app on the test device. The system displays the outcome of the test in the Test Result field.

  • Remove - Perform this action to remove this app variant.
    Caution: Removing the last variant of an app will also remove the app from the system.
    Note: This action is disabled for variants of the default app. It is also disabled on a variant once app users have been registered to receive notifications for it.

Configuring a new app

To launch the Create a New Application dialog for configuring a new app for push notifications, click New. Provide the following information and click Submit to create a new app:

NameEnter a unique name for the app.
DescriptionEnter a description for the app.
PlatformSelect the platform on which this app is available. Choose from:
  • Android
  • iOS
Unique IDEnter a unique identifier to associate with this app and platform. This id is used for validating push notification service requests.
Server KeyAndroid only. Enter the Google server key for this app.
App CertificateiOS only. Use the Browse button to locate the Apple .p12 certificate for this app.
Certificate NameiOS only. Enter a name for storing the app certificate in the system.
Certificate PasswordiOS only. Enter the password associated with the certificate. The system will validate this password and will not upload the certificate in case the password is invalid.
Certificate TypeiOS only. Select the certificate type. Choose either Production or Development.
Monitor Apple's notification feedback service?iOS only. Select the desired option:
  • Yes, monitor and automatically manage errors - Select this option to enable the system to monitor the feedback service for this app. When this option is selected, erroneous devices will automatically be un-registered from the system.
  • No, another system will monitor feedback - Select this option to monitor the feedback service through an external system/mechanism. In this case, the external mechanism should invoke the un-registration service to unregister push tokens that are no longer valid.
