Pega Express best practice Business Value

Updated on November 23, 2022

This best practice is about ensuring you achieve your outcomes, through the thorough preparation of a business justification and supporting business case.

What is Business Value?

This best practice advocates creating a business justification that helps support the decision to prioritize an implementation through a roadmap of Minimum Lovable Product (MLP) releases. MLP releases are releases of prioritized Microjourneys®.

You use Pega's focus on Business Value to ensure that you reap the benefits that you anticipate through your Pega Express™ implementation.

The activities culminate in creating a business case, which serves many purposes:

  • Captures the business outcomes that the Pega solution will achieve

  • Outlines the MLP plan to deliver those outcomes using Pega Express™

  • Explains the baseline performance of any solution

  • Presents the target Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) that the Pega solution will achieve

  • Calculates the return on investment (ROI) by using the baseline and target model

What is the benefit of Business Value?

By creating a business case, you strengthen your diligence around prioritizing scope to ensure that the proposed solution accomplishes the business outcomes and KPIs that will achieve the required ROI for the business.

It helps focus the business to prioritize the right implementation to achieve the desired business outcomes. This approach helps ensure that all implementation work is directly linked throughout a Pega Express implementation, achieving the business outcomes and ROI.

When does Business Value take place?

The Business Values concept applies throughout project implementation. You need to ensure that activity is related to achieving the benefits established as part of the business case. Furthermore, after the solution is live, you need to revisit the business outcomes to ensure that the Pega solution is achieving them. However, the key place to start realizing business value is in the initial stages of a Pega Express implementation, when the business considers the scope of the project. The detailed work around creating a business case that influences, and then supports, the proposed MLP roadmap is fundamental to ensuring that your Pega implementations achieve business success.
