Pega Express best practice Solution documentation

Updated on July 1, 2024

The solution documentation best practice reinforces the ability to generate automatic documentation and that includes supplementary information captured in Pega as your application evolves.

What is solution documentation?

The Pega Express™ best practice of solution documentation is Pega’s out-of-the-box capability to document an application at every stage of the delivery cycle. Documentation is available on demand and includes the ability to document:

  • Business objectives
  • Data model
  • Business process definition

Along with the above, you are able to capture supplementary business and technical context for your data models and processes, to enhance the value of the documentation.

Why does Solution Documentation add value?

The need for solution documentation increases as more and more organizations adopt agile working practices. The diversity of stakeholders directly or indirectly engaged with the configuration and implementation of new applications often requires detailed information about the application to support their contribution, integration, or adoption of the application. Typically, the role of the stakeholder determines the nature and level of detail required, and usually in a form they can readily convert to support their specific needs. Documentation provides:

  • An overview of the application that can be used as part of a handover or for training of new team members.
  • A visual record of the application that can be used as part of regulated system checks or validation exercises.
  • A visual capture of the application that can be used by technical, business, project and center of excellence teams to understand the application.

When does Solution Documentation take place?

Our solution documentation is available on demand at every stage of the project in accordance with your needs. With this flexibility, documentation of the early prototypes can be used to support collaboration and communication with external teams and stakeholders that requires insight into the high-level design and structure of the application. As your progress further through your project you can keep your stakeholders current with snapshots of the application taken at any time, including at Go Live, to support handover to the production support team.
