Deprecation of Microsoft Exchange Web Services

Updated on January 28, 2022

As reported in the Pega Foundation for Healthcare Release Notes 8.6, Pega Foundation for Healthcare’s Microsoft Exchange Web Services (EWS) application has been deprecated. Please note that beginning with version 8.7, the EWS application will no longer be packaged with Pega Foundation for Healthcare.

Pega Foundation for Healthcare Release Notes

The EWS application is a scheduling feature that enables the user to create and manage calendar appointments using Microsoft Exchange Web Services APIs. Microsoft has ended support for Basic Authentication protocols in the Exchange Web Services making the Pega Foundation component unusable as configured. This feature has historically been leveraged primarily by Pega’s Customer Service and Care Management applications. These applications will leverage the more current component from Pega’s CRM platform that supports other authentication protocols as well as other Office 365 applications.

It is suggested that as an alternative to the EWS in Pega Foundation for Healthcare, customers leverage either the Exchange Web Service available in CRM or, for healthcare clinical appointment scheduling, the HL7 FHIR REST APIs that are currently available in Pega Foundation for Healthcare.
