How to auto flatten products and plans

Updated on January 26, 2021

You can configure automatic flattening or flattening with user intervention for products and plans to automatically create multiple flattened structures. You can then use these structures in downstream data such as claims adjudication, or as data input to System for Electronic Rate and Form Filing (SERFF) files.

The auto-flattening process automatically flattens new or updated products and plans when they have either Approved or Approved and hold status. The best practice is to automatically flatten products and plans with no manual intervention. However, based on your organization's business rules, you might want to flatten products and plans with user intervention.
  1. In the header of Dev Studio, click ConfigureProduct composer systemConfiguration.
  2. Click the Flow settings tab.
  3. In the Auto flatten settings section, configure the option that meets your organization's needs.

Note: Do not select the User action enabled for auto-flattening check box.
    2. In the Product stage list of auto-flatten section, select the stages in which you want auto-flattening to occur, for example, Production.
    3. Click Save.

    2. Select the User action enabled for auto-flattening check box so that you can select the products or plans for auto-flattening.
    3. In the Product stage list of auto-flatten section, select the stages in which you want auto-flattening to occur, for example, Production.
    4. Click Save.
What to do next: You can package and export the flattened structure by using the Rule-Admin-Product (RAP) rule. For more information, see Moving applications between systems.

Configuring reattempt settings for auto-flattening

Configure settings for the number of times that Pega Product Composer for Healthcare attempts to flatten entities that have the Pending-Save status and the calculated time between attempts. Ensure that you allow enough time for the entities to move from the Pending-Save status to the Approved or Approved and hold status.

You can also configure settings for the email account that is used to alert users that entities continue to have the Pending-Save status and auto-flattening cannot proceed.
  1. In the header of Dev Studio, enter and search for FlatteningRequeueMaxAttempt.
  2. Click the Dynamic System Settings rule.
  3. On the Edit Dynamic Settings page, modify the value for the number of times that Pega Product Composer for Healthcare attempts to flatten a dependent entity that has the Pending-Save status.
  4. Click Save.
  5. In the header of Dev Studio, enter and search for FlatteningRequeueDelay.
  6. Click the Dynamic System Settings rule.
  7. On the Edit Dynamic Settings page, modify the value for the calculated time between reattempts.
For example: If you configured the FlatteningRequeueMaxAttempt rule as 3 and the FlatteningRequeueDelay rule as 5, then the first attempt occurs immediately, the second attempt occurs 10 (2 x 5) seconds later, and the third and last attempt occurs 15 seconds later.
  8. Click Save.
  9. Optional: To configure the email account that is used to alert users that auto-flattening cannot proceed:
    1. In the navigation pane of Dev Studio, click RecordsIntegration-ResourcesEmail Account.
    2. On the Email Account page, click PegaPCS-HC-USA-Work and complete the fields.
For more information, see Integrating with an email provider.
    3. Click Save.
