Copy function
Copied values are different from inherited values.
The following items in Pega Product Composer for Healthcare use the copy function. After the item is copied, there is no connection to the item from which it was copied. There is no inheritance.
- Product templates
- Metadata
- Required and Covered fields
- Benefit categories
Product templates
If you create a product from an existing product template, you copy the values in the product template. After the copy process is complete, there is no connection between the product template and the new product. In other words, if you later change values in the product template, the values do not change in the copied product.
However, when you are creating or updating a product template, values are inherited from cost shares, passed to the network, and then to benefits or groupers. For example, a copay range of $20 - $50 is inherited by the network and then by the benefit or grouper. There is no additional inheritance.
Metadata
Metadata is the information that you enter in the first step of the product template, product, and plan wizards. Metadata is copied and is not inherited. After the copy process is complete, there is no association with the original information.
For example, if you create a plan from a product, and later change the product metadata, such as the line of business from Individual to Commercial, the change does not affect the plan metadata.
Covered and Required fields
The values for the Covered and Required fields are set at the network level or the benefit level. The values for these fields are copied, not inherited.
For example, if you create a plan from an existing product, the values for the Covered and Required fields are copied. Later on, if you change the Covered field to Not covered in the product, it is not changed in the plan.
However, if the Covered or Required fields are updated in a network of a product, the updated values are copied to the benefits and groupers in that network. These values override the values of the Covered or Required fields in the benefits and groupers of the specified network in the product.
Also, if the Covered or Required fields are updated in a network of a plan, the updated values are copied to the benefits and groupers in that network. These values override the values of the Covered or Required fields in the benefits and groupers of the specified network in the plan.
Benefit categories
The values for benefit categories are copied, not inherited.
For example, you create a Rehabilitation benefit category for Product A, and assign 3 benefits (Speech, Physical, and Occupational) to the category. You then create Plan B from this product. The Rehabilitation benefit category with the three benefits is copied to Plan B. If you later remove the Occupational benefit from the Rehabilitation category in Product A, this change does not affect Plan B because the value was copied.
