Configuring benefit categories

Updated on September 10, 2021

A benefit category is a container that you use to associate related benefits. Benefit categories are helpful in planning when you use a minimal number of benefits. You might configure an Inpatient Hospital benefit category that contains physician and surgeon fees or a Preventive Care benefit category that contains screening and blood tests.

For this tutorial, you configure three benefit categories and later associate the benefits that you configure with one of these benefit categories:

  • In-Patient Hospital Facility
  • Rehabilitation-Services
  • Urgent-Care

Before you begin

Ensure that you have reviewed Configuring Product Composer for Healthcare 8.3 entities for a healthcare insurance plan.

  1. In the header of Dev Studio, click Launch web interface > Product Development.
  2. In the left navigation panel of your work space, click New > Benefit Category.
  3. In the Name field, enter In-Patient Hospital Facility.
  4. In the Description field, enter Category for associating services that are related to a patient who is in the hospital.

  5. Click Continue.
  6. Review the benefit category and click Finish.
  7. Because you have manager credentials, approve the benefit category entity by following these steps:
    1. Click Actions > Approve and hold at the top right.
By selecting Approve and hold instead of Approve, the entity remains in the current stage, but is available for use in other tasks. To advance the entity to the next stage, click Approve.
    2. In the Approve section, click Submit.
  8. Repeat these steps and use the following text to complete the Name and Description fields in the configuration of two additional benefit categories:
    • Rehabilitation-Services
Category for services that are related to rehabilitation.
    • Urgent-Care
Category for services that are related to urgent care.
