Creating assignment types

Updated on December 20, 2022

As robotic work evolves, create appropriate assignment types for work groups. In Pega Robot Manager, when you create a work group, you also create at least one assignment type for the work group. During this initial setup, you might not know all of the assignment types that you want to include in the work group. After initial setup, continue to create assignment types for work groups as needs change.

  1. In the navigation pane of Pega Robot Manager, click Unattended RPAWork groups.
  2. On the Work groups landing page, click the work group for the assignment type.
  3. In the Assignment types area, click + Add assignment type, as shown in the following image:
    Add assignment type link
Shows the add assignment type link at the bottom of the assignment types area of the screen.
Result: The Create new assignment type dialog box includes default values for several settings for the processing and monitoring, as shown in the following example:
Create new assignment type dialog box with default values
The create new assignment type dialog box with default values for max capacity, max automation run time, estimated savings, and SLA.
  4. In the Name field, enter the name of the assignment type.
Note: The system automatically generates the ID for the assignment type based on the name that you enter using the format <name>@<application ID>. This ID does not appear in Robot Manager, but you can use the ID to search for this assignment type in Dev Studio.
  5. In the Max capacity field, accept the default value or enter a different number.
If the number of queued assignments meets or exceeds this threshold, the system displays a warning message for that assignment type on the Work groups page. This message indicates that the number of robots assigned might not be enough to process all the assignments in a timely manner, or as expected.
  6. In the Max automation run time (seconds) field, accept the default value, or enter a different length of time in which the automation is expected to complete.
Note: Robot Manager allows an automation to complete the task in twice the length of time that you specify as Max automation run time (seconds). If the automation exceeds that length of time, Robot Manager displays a red icon for that robot on the Work groups page and Dashboard page, indicating that the robot might need the attention of an administrator.
  7. In the Estimated savings (currency from locale) field, accept the default value or enter the estimated monetary amount that is saved by successfully completing one assignment.
  8. Optional: To override the default service-level agreement (SLA) of three hours, complete these steps:
    1. Select the Override default SLA checkbox.
    2. Define the new SLA period for this assignment type using the Day and HH:MM fields.
For example, to define an SLA period of 1 day and 5 hours, enter 1 in the Day field and 05:00 in the HH:MM field, as shown in the following image:
Option to override the default SLA
Override default SLA checkbox selected and the days field shows 1 and the hour and minute field shows 05:00.
  9. Click Submit.
