Installing Pega Robotic Automation
Pega Robotic Automation provides the tools you need to create attended and unattended robots and provides a runtime environment for those robots.
The following installation instructions show you how to install and configure Pega Robotic Automation, by using either the Setup wizards or the command line.
- Requirements for running Pega Robotic Automation
This topic shows the minimum and recommended hardware and software configurations to run Pega Robotic Automation version 22.1.
- Downloading Pega Robotic Automation software
The first step in the installation process is to download your Pega Robotic Automation software from the My Software site.
- Migrating solutions from 19.1 to 22.1
Use the Upgrade 19.1 solution option to migrate your Pega Robotic Automation version 19.1 solutions into projects that you can open and modify in Pega Robot Studio 22.1.
- Running Robot Studio 19.1 and 22.1 on the same computer
You can install Robot Studio version 22.1 on a computer that also has Robot Studio version 19.1.109 or later installed.

You can bypass the Setup wizard and install Pega Robotic Automation from the command line. This involves installing all of the prerequisites and both of the components that comprise the Pega Robotic Automation.
- Installing the OCR Screen Scraping and Document OCR features
Pega Robotic Automation v22.1 includes Optical Character Recognition (OCR) Screen Scraping and Document OCR features. These features use the OCR capabilities in the third-party tool, the ABBYY FineReader Engine.

To experience a trouble-free update process, follow these best practices when you update Robot Runtime or Robot Studio.
- Starting Robot Runtime
You typically use the Pega.Loader.exe application to automatically start Robot Runtime for end users, but you can also start Robot Runtime by selecting Robot Runtime from the Start menu.
