Intelligent Recording

Updated on October 19, 2022

Within an automation, you can record steps that you perform and have Robot Studio create Controls and populate their properties from the recorded steps. This process is called Intelligent Recording. Intelligent Recording creates steps in your automation that mirror the steps recorded in the automation.

There are two types of Intelligent Recording.

  • Automatic Step Creation
  • Targeted Step Creation

Automatic Step Creation automatically records the steps you perform in an application, using the most common or default values for created steps. For example, if you type text into a field, a step is created for a Text field with the value you typed. In Targeted Step Creation, you open the Step Editor, using the Gear icon, and define the field or control manually. To enable Automatic Step Creation, enable X-ray Vision for the application.

  • Automatic Step Creation

Automatic Step Creation tracks your progress through an application process and creates automation steps based on default or provided values. All you have to do is begin recording and perform the process in your application.

  • Targeted Step Creation

In Targeted Step Creation, you define values for each control or field in your automation, using the Step Editor.

  • Using the Actions menu in a paused recording

The Actions menu is available when you click Stop to pause recording. The Actions menu allows you to move recorded steps to a current or new automation, to delete a recorded section, or to restart included applications.

  • Testing an automation in a paused recording

You can test a section of your automation in the middle of a recording session.

  • Login automations

In most cases, Pega Robot Studio automatically detects the steps for logging into an application. To improve the security of your solution, you can add these login steps to a new automation, ignore them, or delete them.
