Creating automations for a Citrix environment

Updated on April 3, 2023

You can use Pega Robotic Automation to create solutions that run in a Citrix environment. By using custom Citrix contexts within Robot Studio solutions, you can integrate applications running on the Citrix server with those running on Citrix client machines. In Robot Studio, you use the Context project item to designate the adapters, automations, and other project items to be launched from the Citrix server.

Target applications can reside entirely on the Citrix server or can be distributed between the server and clients. The following example shows a typical setup.

For detailed configuration information and a hands-on exercise for using Robot Studio with Citrix, see Using Citrix Contexts.

See also the Pega Academy course, Robotic Solution Development for Citrix.

Note: Before you create automations that run in a Citrix environment, ensure that Citrix App Protection is not enabled in your environments. Citrix App Protection is an add-on feature for the Citrix Workspace app that provides enhanced security when using Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops published resources. This add-on interferes with the ability to automate some applications and is currently not supported. After disabling this add-on, you can use Citrix Contexts in Robot Studio to get started.
