Support for large case attachments

Valid from Pega Version 7.4

You can now attach large files to a case on a variety of cloud storage options, including Pega Cloud File Storage, Amazon S3, Microsoft Azure, and JFrog Artifactory. Files can be 1 to 2 GB depending on your environment configuration. Attachments are streamed to the selected storage option without being loaded into memory, which reduces the risk of generating an out-of-memory error. Additionally, all cloud instances now have the new Pega Cloud File Storage repository defined.

For more information, see Storing case attachments outside the Pega Platform database.

Data Visualization controls are now available

Valid from Pega Version 7.4

Use a Data Visualization control when you need a highly configurable visualization beyond the standard pie, bar, and line charts. With a Data Visualization control, you can appropriately represent any type of data. You can add Data Visualization controls to sections or anywhere else a standard control can be used, such as dashboard widgets.

For more information, see Adding and configuring a Data Visualization control.

Layout groups support test ID on nested dynamic layouts

Valid from Pega Version 7.4

Dynamic layouts support the addition of a test ID to each dynamic layout within a layout group. Test IDs support automated testing by providing a unique identifier for user interface elements. Add test IDs to a dynamic layout within a layout group from the General tab of the layout properties.

For more information, see Dynamic Layout Properties - General tab.

Compact style sheet for creating PDF files

Valid from Pega Version 7.4

You can now use a compact style sheet when you create PDF files by using the Create PDF smart shape in a case type or when you use the HTMLtoPDF activity. This style sheet overrides the style sheet that is used by the harness skin and correctly renders certain elements such as headings and inline grid tables. It also renders PDF files more quickly.

For more information, see Creating PDF files by using a compact style sheet and PDF file rendering scenarios.

Touch response supported on mobile devices

Valid from Pega Version 7.4

When displayed on a mobile device, all active elements of the Pega® Platform user interface now respond to touch by changing their appearance. No additional configuration is available or necessary.

Setting a build version of the custom mobile app

Valid from Pega Version 7.4

When you build a custom mobile app, you can now configure a build version and leave the custom mobile app version unchanged. This way you can upload an updated custom mobile app to the Apple App Store and Google Play Store without having to increment the app version.

For more information, see Setting the app build version.

Data pages can source information from a robotic process automation

Valid from Pega Version 7.4

When you use robotic process automation (RPA), you can now configure data pages to source information from robotic automations so that you can connect your Pega® Platform application to legacy applications in your enterprise. By using automations to retrieve data and save it to a data page, you can use data virtualization to encapsulate your Pega Platform data model from the physical interface of a legacy system against which the automation is running.

For more information, see Obtaining information from robotic automations.

Legacy rules removed to reduce Pega Platform installation size

Valid from Pega Version 7.4

The installation of Pega® Platform 7.4 removes deprecated and unused rules. The smaller installation size decreases rule sync time and reduces the amount of storage required for Pega Platform. In addition, the smaller installation reduces the rule database size and shortens installation and upgrade times. You can access the legacy rules, if needed, in the PegaLegacyRules:01-01-01 in the Resource Kit on the Pega Platform media.

For more information see Finding legacy rules in sections.

CRM core data types included in Pega Platform

Valid from Pega Version 7.4

Customer Relationship Management (CRM) core data types are now included with Pega® Platform, making it easier to bring your data into your Pega application. You can either import your data into the data tables for the CRM data types or use integration to communicate with your own system of record. The database tables for these data types are non-Pega formatted, which gives you better performance and more control over your data.

For information about the database tables, see CRM data types in Pega Platform.

VTable dispatch mechanism for HTML control execution improves performance

Valid from Pega Version 7.4

Pega® Platform now uses an optimized VTable dispatch mechanism to manage rule execution for the Text Input and Formatted Text Input controls. This change improves performance by eliminating the dependency between stream rules and HTML controls during rule assembly. Disabling this feature will have a negative effect on performance and is not recommended. However, you can disable this feature by adding the following configuration parameter:

Name: assembly/section/control/vtable
Value: false
