Spell-check support for multiple locales

Valid from Pega Version 8.5

The spell checker in rich text editors now supports selection of the language of input. In previous releases, the locale of the user determined the language that the spell checker supported. In this release, you can change the default language support by adding locales to the appropriate decision table. This enhancement increases versatility and convenience for users by ensuring grammatical correctness for the language of their choice without the need for external tools.

For more information, see Extending the spell checker to other languages.

Enhanced Case Designer in App Studio

Valid from Pega Version 8.5

For greater clarity when visualizing your business processes, App Studio now has an improved Case Designer. In Pega Platform™ 8.5, every persona displays a list of associated channels, and every data object lists associated systems, instead of showing multiple entities for different channels or systems. Additionally, for better distinction every channel and system displays a unique icon. To fully convey your business process using just one screen, Case Designer now also supports visualizing attachments required for your microjourney, as well as creating draft associations between personas and channels.

For more information, see Plan your Microjourneys more conveniently in an improved Case Designer (8.5), Creating a Microjourney for customer success.

Condition builder enhancements

Valid from Pega Version 8.5

To enhance the precision of condition builder in both App Studio and Dev Studio, the new instances include comparator helps you specify the number of field group and field group list instances to which a when rule applies. In addition, a search option that returns results on keypress helps you easily look for existing values.

For more information, see Create conditions in an enhanced condition builder (8.5), Defining conditions in the condition builder.

Triage cases archiving in the email bot (Pega Cloud Services)

Valid from Pega Version 8.5

For Pega Platform™ that is installed in Pega Cloud® Services, you can configure Pega Email Bot™ to archive resolved triage cases that are older than a specified number of days. Archiving triage cases improves the overall performance of your system by reducing the primary storage consumption and cost because the system places such resolved triage cases in a secondary storage.

For more information, see Archiving resolved emails for an email bot (Pega Cloud Services).

Limits on active data flow runs

Valid from Pega Version 8.5

You can now configure a maximum number of concurrent active data flow runs for a node type. Set limits to ensure that you do not run out of system resources and that you have a reasonable processing throughput. If a limit is reached, the system queues subsequent runs and waits for active runs to stop or finish before queued runs can be initiated, starting with the oldest.

For more information see, Limit the number of active runs in data flow services (8.5).

Upgrade impact

If you have many data flow runs active at the same time, you might notice that some of the runs are queued and waiting to be executed.

What steps are required to update the application to be compatible with this change?

You do not have to take any action. After the active runs stop or finish, the queued runs start automatically. The default limits are intended to protect your system resources, and you should not see a negative impact on the processing of data flows. However, if you want to allow a greater number of active data flow runs to be active at the same time, you can change the limits. For more information, see Limiting active data flow runs.

Enhanced optimized tables

Valid from Pega Version 8.5

Optimized tables now come with a greater range of options, such as support for sorting and filtering cell content in embedded sections. The new options also include passing parameter values from a data page to a table instead of manually entering the values for each of the parameters. For example, you can mark an organization name as a parameter to pass into a table. The new enhancements facilitate the transition to the more efficient optimized tables, and save time and effort.

For more information, see Optimizing table code.

Business logic-based routing cards enhancements

Valid from Pega Version 8.5

To ensure that the sequence of business logic-based routing cards conforms to your business requirements, you now have the option to change the order of the cards. For easier navigation across multiple routing cards, the system automatically collapses the cards for you, and you can then easily expand the cards that you need to display.

For more information, see Navigate easier across business logic-based routing cards (8.5), Assigning users automatically at run time.

Improved support for working with cases in multiple browser tabs

Valid from Pega Version 8.5

The Cosmos design system now provides enhanced support for opening and working on cases in multiple browser tabs. Cases that users open in new browser tabs are processed independently and include the portal’s main navigation bar, which allows users to conveniently browse other pages on any tab.

Failed Robotic Assignments work queue type changed to Standard

Valid from Pega Version 8.5

The default Failed Robotic Assignments work queue type is now Standard. In previous releases, the default type was Robotic. For usage information, see Configuring a work queue for robotic automation.

Upgrade impact

After upgrading to Pega Platform 8.5 and later, you cannot save case types in which you configure the Queue for robot smart shape to route new assignments to the Failed Robotic Assignments work queue. Existing assignments that you routed to the Failed Robotic Assignments work queue are not affected.

How do I update my application to be compatible with this change?

As a best practice, do not use the Failed Robotic Assignments work queue in your custom implementations. Instead, configure the Queue for robot smart shape to route new assignments to a Robotic work queue. When possible, update existing case types to use the robotic work queues that you created in your application.

Support for Apache HBase 2.1 and Hadoop 3.0

Valid from Pega Version 8.5

Support for these versions extends Pega Platform™ compatibility with HBase releases to ensure that your database implementations integrate seamlessly with Pega Platform.

Pega Platform now supports:

  • Apache HBase 2.1 for the HBase data set
  • Apache Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS) 3.0 for the HDFS data set

For more information, see Enhance your data sets with Apache HBase 2.1 and Hadoop 3.0 (8.5).
