Updated SSO operator authentication handling after passivation

Resolved in Pega Version 8.1.9

With SSO enabled and the pyAccessGroupsAdditional value list populated with the Mapping tab, attempting to access an expired session with an old cookie resulted in a stale thread exception while mapping value list attributes. This was due to using an AuthServicePage which was created by another session thread that had become stale for current session, and has been resolved by updating the code to call the authenticateoperator method on the authservicepage copy.

IDP Encrypted connections working on SAML

Resolved in Pega Version 7.3.1

IDP initiated SAML 2.0 was not working, and generated the error "Unable to process the SAML WebSSO request : Missing Relaystate information in IDP Response". Authentication worked fine with unencrypted SAML token. This schema validation failure happened because encrypted attributes were previously being ignored by Pega due to an issue in the underlying openSAML library. To resolve this, a custom PegaSAMLValidator has been inserted to validate the assertion and honor encrypted attributes.

Handling added for absent property in Access When

Resolved in Pega Version 7.3.1

Configuring Access Control Policy to automatically restrict access to certain records by including an Access When rule to compare a custom property (.Consultant) on the OperatorID (Data-Admin-Operator-ID) page generated an exception if that property did not actually exist on the current operator. This has been resolved by revising the security policy engine to handle the exception.

Corrected test connection for LDAP AuthService using keystore

Resolved in Pega Version 8.2.4

When using a AuthService rule defined for LDAP using ldaps:// and a KeyStore rule that was defined to reference a local file in the server, the Test Connection button on the AuthService rule did not work and generated the following exception: "com.pega.apache.commons.httpclient.contrib.ssl.AuthSSLInitializationError: I/O error reading keystore/truststore file: null". Investigation showed that file reference keystore did not work with an LDAPS test connection because while run time used the LDAPVerifyCredentials activity, the design time validation used the activity “ValidateInfrastructure” which did not have the required code to support file reference keystore. This has been corrected.

SR-B56648 · Issue 315674

Added security check when running out-of-the-box reports with ShowSelectorView

Resolved in Pega Version 7.3.1

A security issue was found where non-authorized users were able to access the out-of-the-box report details in their portal by manipulating the URL to pass a "short-cut" parameter that executed the Final "ShowSelectorView" activity. To avoid the need to set the explicit privileges manually, the ShowSelectorView activity will call a security check to prevent this.

Port validation updated for redirect URI

Resolved in Pega Version 8.1.9

When an offline app for windows client was generated, trying to login via SSO resulted in the error "invalid redirect_uri". This was traced to the system validating the whole loopback redirection URL, e.g. "http://127.0.0.1:1234/redirection", including the port number. To enhance flexibility, an update has been made so that the port number will not be validated, allowing the client to establish it based on availability at the moment of the request to the authorization service. NOTE: As a best practice, a loopback URL should not be configured as a redirect URI. If a loopback URL is configured, then at run time the port number will not be validated, and the client application can use any available port on the system including ports that may not be intended for use.

Handling added for custom error message in post-authentication activity

Resolved in Pega Version 8.2.4

The error message in post authentication activity was always appearing as 'Login terminated because a post-authentication activity or policy failed' irrespective of the actual message being conditionally set in the activity based on post authentication logic. Investigation showed that the parameter page in the SSO post-authentication activity was not being passed to the 'pzShowAuthPolicyError' activity due to the post-authentication activity executing in authenticated context whereas the HTML fragment executed in the un-authenticated context. In order to support this use, post-authentication activity will set the error message on a predefined property and propagate that to the HTML fragment by appending the error message as a query parameter in the redirect exception URL post-authentication failure.

Proxy configurations made available to OAuth2 and other clients

Resolved in Pega Version 7.3.1

Setting up Proxy for the REST Connector was not working when using OAuth2. When using OAuth2 authorization for Connector features including REST Connectors, the com.pega.pegarules.integration.engine.internal.client.oauth2.OAuth2ClientImpl class is used for connections to the OAuth2 Provider for interactions such as fetching authorization tokens. However, OAuth2ClientImpl does not have the required code for "picking up" the JVM-level proxy settings and applying them to the HTTP Client it uses, so the HTTP calls to the OAuth2 provider were always bypassing the configured HTTP proxy. In order to resolve this and enhance future use, the code in the RESTConnector module that allows REST Connectors to use HTTP Proxies has been extracted out into the "HTTPClientUtils" module so that it can be used by any consumer to apply the system's Proxy configuration to any instance of PegaRESTClient. OAuth2ClientImpl has been updated to call this during HTTP client setup, prior to making the request for data from OAuth2 Providers, and RESTConnnector has been updated to call this new implementation to replace the universal Proxy code that was refactored out of it.

Parameters removed from on-screen error messages to protect sensitive data

Resolved in Pega Version 7.3.1

It was discovered that sensitive information such as account numbers used as parameters were being displayed in exception error messages displayed on the screen. Including the parameters as part of the error is intended to aid in debugging the problem, but these parameters do not need to be displayed in the UI. In order to protect potentially sensitive data, parameter values have been removed from the exception message. When the DeclarativePageDirectoryImpl logger is enabled, the parameters will be entered into the Pega log files and not shown on screen.

SR-D29485 · Issue 503511

Enhancement added to modify URL encryption for load testing

Resolved in Pega Version 8.2.4

An enhancement has been added which allows conditionally modifying URL encryption for load testing. This uses the flag crypto/useportablecipherforurlencryption: if true, a portable hardcoded key is used to encrypt the URLs and if false, a dynamically generated key per thread/requestor is used to encrypt the URL.
