Elasticsearch will split queries to avoid URL length limits

Resolved in Pega Version 8.8

Elastic Search Functionality was not working and showed the status as Offline. Investigation showed that when an external Elasticsearch setup had an index prefix length = 200 and a large number of dedicated indexes, the error "too_long_frame_exception, reason: An HTTP line is larger than 4096 bytes" was generated. In this case, the system was working with approximately 87 dedicated indexes and the name for each of them was sent over the URL, resulting in this error message. This has been resolved by updating the system to split queries so as to not exceed the HTTP line limit in Elasticsearch.

Auto Complete working in Mobile Browser configuration

Resolved in Pega Version 8.8

Autocomplete was not working in the mobile browser when logged in as a user and configured with display mode:"in-a-table" and "display as full screen in mobile" disabled. Autocomplete results will always display in List mode in the mobile browser, but with the configuration "in a table" selected and "Display results full screen on phone" unchecked, pzGetACData (which gets called for List mode) was not registered and returned a 403 response. To handle this, the conditions file ActionAssembly.java has been removed so pzGetACData will always be registered.

Corrected layout group overlapping content

Resolved in Pega Version 8.4.4

When an editable Table with Master Detail Edit has a section that contains a Layout group (Tab) inside the Master Detail Flow Action, if there are more layout group headings than that can be contained in the screen, a left and right arrow are displayed to toggle between headings in the layout group heading bar. However, timing issues sometimes caused the contents of the layout group to overlap on top of the content below the layout group and the screen was freezing with a loading icon. This was traced to console errors, and has been resolved by adding an 'undefined' check to prevent those errors.

Default compiler pool size increased

Resolved in Pega Version 8.4.1

An issue was seen where the nodes were continuously terminating and Stream service was not started. Error messages indicated a "WARN - Long running request detected for requestor", and that tasks were waiting for the generic object pool. Analysis showed that it was possible for a deadlock to form during the startup of the system or during the first few rule executions and compilations when there were more than five rules trying to compile. Once the variable LibraryMetadata.TypeEnvironment.resolver (ClassLoader) is initialized, the problem would resolve. To prevent the deadlock, the default compiler pool size has been increased from 5 to 10.

Pagination updated to resolve repeating Pulse notes

Resolved in Pega Version 8.4.1

After adding a case and entering 15 Pulse notes, scrolling down resulted in the notes being duplicated. Investigation traced this to entering more than 10 posts in a single interaction on a previously empty case when "Progressive pagination" was enabled for the repeating dynamic layout. On Private Edit, if the pagination was changed to "NONE" then the issue was resolved. Pagination depends on the pzPagingStartDateTime property, which is set on D_pzFeedParams, but since there were no results in this scenario this property was not being set. To resolve this, an update has been made so that pzPagingStartDateTime will be set if it is empty.

Support added for custom portal with temporary work object

Resolved in Pega Version 8.4.1

After creating a screen flow with temporary work object in a custom portal, entering some data and clicking caused the screen to be blank after browser refresh. The same process from Designer Studio or the Case Manager portal worked as expected. Investigation showed that SPA applications with displayonpage actions was sending empty parameters to render the harness due to the 'doUiAction' activity clearing additional pages for single frame portals. To resolve this, the 'when' rule in step14 has been updated to support a custom portal and temporary work object.

Hazelcast thread locking improved

Resolved in Pega Version 8.1.1

The system was hanging after attempting Hazelcast locking. Tracing showed threads that seemed to be waiting for the system lock to become available so that they could acquire a database lock. This was caused by an implementation issue in LockUtils that did not wait to ensure that the distributed map's lock was released if it wasn't yet available. To correct this, debug logging has been added to the "LockUtils" class which will print when the lock is acquired or released along with the associated stacktrace. In addition, a wait function has been added to the Distributed Map lock to improve the timing between release and grab.

Performance improvement for Application Save: Node Level Data Pages

Resolved in Pega Version 8.7

As part of new functionality introduced in 8.3, data types defined in the application record will be turned into data objects on Application save. As part of this process node level pages are invalidated and reloaded and there is an explicit commit that marks the Application record as dirty and sends any calls for the application record to the database for fresh records. In a multi-node environment, the number of queries to get the application record being saved became exponentially higher and performance impacts were seen. This has been resolved by updating the system to skip eager loading of the data page definition when an access rule or application definition is saved.
