Managing data series in insights

Updated on October 29, 2021

Increase the readability of chart-based insights by customizing visualization options of data series. For example, in a banking application, you can manage your insight to include two distinct charts that illustrate differences between income and expenditure.

  1. In the navigation pane of your application, click Explore Data.
  2. In the Insights section, in the Name column, click the insight that you want to modify.
  3. In the upper-right corner of the insight, click Edit.
  4. On the CHART tab, manage charts for specific data series:
    ChoicesActions
    Change the chart type
    1. In the Series section, next to the specific data series whose chart you want to update, click MoreEdit chart type.
    2. In the Edit chart type list, select a chart type for the series.
For example: Select Line to visualize data with points that are connected with a line.
    Manage markers of data points
Note: Markers are customizable for the Line and Area chart types only.
    1. In the Series section, next to the specific data series whose chart you want to update, click MoreEdit markers.
    2. In the Edit markers list, select the shape of markers for the data points.

    4. Optional: To display labels in the chart horizontally, select the Use horizontal labels check box.
  5. If you want to manage labels of the donut chart, perform the following actions:

    2. In the Percentage position list, select the location of labels that indicate percentage of data distribution.

For example: Select Inside segment to embed the label within the chart.
  6. In the upper-right corner of the insight, save changes by clicking Save insight.
For example: The following visualization presents a chart-based insight that includes two data series illustrated by two distinct charts.
  • Adding regions and reference lines

Maximize the informative value of your chart-based insights by including supplementary elements that highlight the most meaningful data.

  • Color-coding the appearance of data series

Enhance data analysis by bringing essential data series into focus. For example, in the insight that presents monthly sales, you can color columns with values that are higher than a specified value to make that data stand out.
