About Product Patch rules

NoteYou can use a product rule, not a product patch rule, to create a patch.GRP 920 v5.5

Complete the Contents tab to identify the rules and data objects that make up the product patch.

First, identify the RuleSets and versions to be included, and the application they support. As a best practice, select > Application > Development > Checked Out Rules. byrnb 2/26/10 Complete the parameters and click Run. Review the resulting report to confirm that none of the rules in these RuleSet versions are checked out. Then, using an Explorer tool, confirm that each RuleSet version is locked. (See RuleSet form — Completing the Versions tab.)

Enter RuleSets in any order. During import processing of the ZIP file, the system determines a valid order in which to load the rules.

(In releases before V5.3, order was significant. During import processing, RuleSets in a ZIP were loaded in the reverse order that they appeared in this array.)

Complete the Data to Include area identifying data instances to be included. Many products depend on data classes (derived from the Data- base class) in order for the application to run correctly on the destination system. These class categories include:

Consider carefully any dependencies among data instances or between data instances and your rules. During upload, data instances already present are by default not overwritten. (These data instances may require adjustment after they are uploaded into the destination Process Commander system.) For more information, see the PDN article PRKB-24111, How to ensure that a product rule includes all parts of an application.

Field

Description

RuleSets to Include

Identify the RuleSets and versions that make up the patch. You can choose only RuleSet versions that are direct or indirect prerequisites of the RuleSet and version of this rule. (However, other choices may appear in SmartPrompt lists.) B-15151

Enter RuleSets in any order. During import processing of ZIP file, the system determines a valid order to load the rules.

(OldIn releases before 5.3, order was significant. During import processing, RuleSets in a ZIP were loaded in the reverse order that they appeared in this array.)

RuleSet

SmartPromptIdentify a RuleSet.

RuleSet Version

Identify a version for that RuleSet, in the form NN-NN-NN. Do not use a partial version or prefix such as 01 or 01-01.

Note The ZIP file produced from this product patch rule contains the rules associated with this single version only. Rules in lower-numbered versions are not automatically added. SR-863 TURBT MAREK

To add rules from multiple versions of a RuleSet, list each version in a row of this form.

Note

Optional. Enter descriptive text for this RuleSet and version, to document your intent.

Data to Include

Identify the data instances that make up the patch. In most cases, the order of entries is not significant. REMOVED v5.5per T. Peterson — When uploading a ZIP file, the system:

  • Processes data instances before RuleSet versions
  • Processes Data-Admin-DB-Name instances before Data-Admin-DB-Table instances, which are in turn processed before Data-Admin-DB-ClassGroup instances.
  • Processes rows of this array from the bottom up, subject to the above. KARAF 3/24/06 clinic
Data Class

SmartPromptOptional. Identify a concrete class other than a Rule- class that contains instances to be included as part of your application. REMOVED per KARAF clinic 3/24/06 When a single ZIP file contains both Data Table instances and rule or data instances intended to be stored in the tables, some instances tables may inappropriately be stored in the pr_other default table after upload. As a workaround, if you need to move one or more Data Table instances (Data-Admin-DB-Table class) and also move rule or data instances that belong to tables identified in those Data Table instances, create two Product rules — one containing only the Data Table instances and another with the balance. On the destination system, upload the ZIP file containing the Data Table instances first. CLINIC 11/11/05

When Filter

SmartPromptOptional. Identify a when condition rule (defined in the class identified in the Data Class field) that is true only for the instances of that class that are to be included as part of your application.

If you leave this blank, the ZIP archive contains all the instances of the class.

Note

Optional. Enter descriptive text for this row of the array.

 Create Zip File

B-4600 After you save this rule form (and normally check it in if it is checked out), click to create a ZIP archive. See More about Product Patch rules.

Use a file name that is valid for both the destination server and the current server; they may be hosted on different Windows or UNIX platforms. The .ZIP suffix is optional. Many special characters are allowed, but you can't include spaces B-15737 or an equals sign character (=) in the file name. B-12720 B-18823 OLSOK 42SP6 2/21/06

You can also create the ZIP file from this product patch rule later, using the Export Archive tool.

REMOVED v5.5 per J. PetersonNoteAlthough Process Commander does not restrict the number of records or size of the ZIP file, some operating system ZIP utilities limit the file size to 2 gigabytes. SR-801 KARAF 3/28/06 WERDA
