Adding a single-value field to a data type or case type
After creating a data type or case type, you can add a single-value field to collect an individual piece of information from users. These fields can then be added to a form that will be used in your application's user interface. For example, you can add a Phone field to a form that prompts users to enter their home telephone number.
To add a single-value field to a data type:

To access the data model tab for a data type:
- Click the Data icon in the Explorer panel to display the Data Explorer.
- Click the data type.
- Click the Data model tab.
To access the data model tab for a case type:
- Open a case type in Case Designer.
- Click the Data Model tab.
- Click Add field.
- Enter the field's label in the Name column. An identifier is automatically generated in the ID column.
- Update the field's identifier that will be used to reference it in rules in the ID column.
- Select the type of data that will be stored in this field in the Type column from the Simple or Fancy category.
- Continue adding fields as necessary.
Note: Some simple or fancy fields, such as picklists, require configuration before they are fully functional. Click the Gear icon to view the available options for a field.
