Configuring the request and response in REST integration by using simulation instances

You can generate and save simulation instances for the methods that you selected on the Select Methods screen of the New REST Integration wizard. The system uses the simulation instances that contain request and response data to generate the request and response data models for the data source corresponding to the REST integration.

1. Click Test against each method that you selected.
2. In the Test Data Source dialog box, configure the following tabs under Request:
   • Definition: Enter the values of individual elements under Resource Path Parameter and Query String Parameter. The system updates the Endpoint URL with the values. These values are applicable only for the current instance of test execution for the method.
   For POST and PUT methods, configure the body of the request in a tree format by adding nodes under Edit Request Payload.

   Note: Go to the XML/JSON tab to know and if needed, update the format of the request. For example, "{}" represents JSON and "<>" represents XML.
   

   • Add child nodes for the top node by clicking Add Child. Then, enter the Node Name and Node Value for the node. Add subsequent child nodes in a similar manner.
   • For XML requests, add sibling nodes by clicking Add Sibling and attributes for nodes by clicking Add Attribute.
   • Select a node and click Delete to remove it. Click Refresh to refresh the tree view.

   When you update the tree format, the system updates the XML/JSON tab with the corresponding raw format.

   • XML/JSON: For POST and PUT methods, configure the body of the request in raw XML or JSON format. The system updates the Edit Request Payload section in the Definition tab with the corresponding tree format.
   • Authentication: Configure the authentication for the test execution.
3. Click Test to view the Response. The default response appears in a tree format on the Tree View tab. You can switch to the Raw tab to view the response in a raw format such as XML or JSON and the Details tab for more information about the response such as status code, content type and header information.
4. Click Save Data to create a simulation instance from the current configuration for reuse. In the form that appears, provide a name for the saved data and click Create.
5. Click Load Data to restore any saved simulation instance. Select the instance from the drop-down list and click Load.
6. Click the Close button to close the dialog box and continue with step 4 of selecting methods.
