Configuring remote logging for file listeners

You can use remote logging to troubleshoot file listeners. Remote logging provides more detail than the Tracer tool.

The Remote Logging feature streams the contents of the log file to the LogFactor5 application that is installed on your workstation. When you add your workstation as an active logger from Admin Studio, your workstation receives all messages for all processes running on the server. To view only those log messages that are about the service rule this listener listens for, complete this task. To identify your workstation as a logger, start the LogFactor5 window on your workstation before using Admin Studio.

  1. From the Records editor in Dev Studio, click File Listener.
  2. Click the file listener that you want to configure.
  3. Click the Properties tab.
  4. Optional: In the Remote host field, enter the network name of your computer. See Debugging listeners by using remote logging.
  5. Optional: In the Port field, enter the TCP/IP port number that the log4j package on your computer listens on. The default port is 8887.
