Creating a product rule of test case data by using the Package Work wizard

To migrate small amounts of case data, use the Package Work wizard to create a product rule that contains case data generated when the application executes. This case data can include work items, assignments, history, bugs, documents, and attachments. After you create the product rule, you can transfer the application to multiple systems.

  1. In the header of Dev Studio, click Configure > Application > Distribution > Package Work.
  2. Enter the product rule description:
    1. Enter the Product Name. This will become the product rule name. The name must start with a letter and can include letters, digits, and the underscore character.
    2. Enter a new Product Version number.
    3. Enter a Description to display in the Description section on the History tab in the Product rule form.
    4. Select the Ruleset in which to create the product rule.
    5. Select the ruleset Version.
    6. Click Next.
  3. Specify the criteria for packaging the product rule:
    1. Select the Class Group (Work Pool) that contains the work classes to include in the product rule.
    2. Specify whether to include assignments, attachments, and history instances in the specified work classes.
    3. Click Next.
  4. Select the work classes to include in the product rule:
    1. Select the Classes for which include work items and other data instances.
    2. Enter the beginning and end points of the Work ID Range. Enter the correct prefix. If the prefix is incorrect or missing, the work items will not be included in the product rule.
  5. Click Finish.
  6. Click the open icon to review the contents of the product rule.
What to do next:  After you create the product rule, you can click Start Migration Wizard to continue at Distributing product rules to multiple systems by using the Product Migration wizard.
