Rebuilding search indexes

Updated on August 25, 2021

You can rebuild default or dedicated search indexes if they become corrupted or if they were accidentally deleted. Custom search indexes cannot be deleted from Dev Studio.

Reindexing can take some time. You can view progress on the Queue Processor landing page. Additional details and progress messages also appear in the system console log.

You can rebuild search indexes interactively, or you can rebuild them by using a script that uses a direct connection to the database.

For more information on rebuilding search indexes interactively, see Rebuilding search indexes from the user interface.

For more information rebuilding search indexes by using a direct connection to the database, see Rebuilding search indexes by using a direct connection to the database.

  • Configuring fuzzy search

You can configure how search works when you perform a fuzzy search query in a custom search tool. Fuzzy search queries look for approximate spellings that match the entered search string, and find matches if you misspell a term, or are uncertain of its spelling. For example, entering “tst" matches terms like "test," "tests," and so on, depending on how the fuzzy search parameters are set.

  • Configuring dynamic system settings for search

You can enable search by using dynamic system settings.

  • Rebuilding search indexes from the user interface

Keep your application up-to-date by rebuilding the indexes that store the application data. For example, in a flight booking application, you can introduce new parameters in the Data- index, and then rebuild that index to make the changes visible for the users.

  • Stopping or pausing search reindexing

Stop or pause search reindexing when there is a processing issue.

  • Rebuilding search indexes by using a direct connection to the database

You can rebuild search indexes if they become corrupted or if they were accidentally deleted. To rebuild a search index by using a direct connection to the database, complete the following steps.

  • Reindexing a node in a cluster

During reindexing, database performance might be affected and search results might be incomplete. This is due to the reindexing process.
