Training Question of the Week for February 11th, 2008

Updated on September 10, 2021

Question
Can PRPC integrate with other version control software?

Answer by Bill Rathert
Because PRPC maintains rule versioning using RuleSets, it is not feasible to integrate individual rules into an external version control system. Howver, you can create a PRPC export file (.zip) which is considered a versioned package of rules. This file can then be integrated into a separate external system.

With V5.3 you can create export ZIP archives from product rules using a UNIX shell script or Windows BAT file. Similarly, these facilities allow you to import a ZIP archive into a destination system using a command line or script.

Export/Import capabilities are examined in the PRPC System Administration course.

For more information on creating ZIP archive files using scripts see How to import and export ZIP archives from a command line.
