Training Question of the Week for March 10th, 2008

Updated on September 10, 2021

Question
Does PRPC support the use of state diagrams to communicate shared object state and if so, can we import them directly into PRPC? Does PRPC export state diagrams as well?

Answer by Steve Youles
PRPC uses flows to control the logic of work objects and to set their status (among other things), but not to communicate status. A flow has shapes and connectors (called SmartShapes) which determine what happens next with a particular work object. Each connector and shape have individual attributes which makes PRPC flows much more complex than state diagrams; therefore UML state diagrams cannot be imported to nor exported from PRPC.

Flows and shapes are discussed in each Pegasystems course.
