Troubleshooting: Toolbar icons are missing on initial display of standard rule form

Symptom

The first time you open a rule form -- for example, the Operator ID form – the Save, Delete, and Help icons do not appear on the toolbar. On the second and subsequent times that you open the rule form, the toolbar icons display as expected:

Solution

Network latency is the probable cause of this problem. Using a browser from a remote location over a slow network can affect the initial rendering of Developer portal elements. The timing with loading images is affected by slow network speed.

Contact your network administrator to tune your network infrastructure.

Pegasystems' tests to reproduce this issue have yielded the following results:

  • With 100 Mbps internal LAN, the issue does not occur.
  • With a virtual private network (VPN) connection to a corporate LAN over a 3.1 Mbps wireless Internet connection, the issue occurs sporadically.
  • With a VPN connection to a corporate LAN over 230 Kbps wireless Internet connection, the issue occurs consistently.
