Specifying the data source for a Timeline control

Updated on April 5, 2022

To identify the events to display on the timeline, you specify the data source — property or data page — for the events. At run time, the list is automatically refreshed with new items whenever the property or data page value changes.

  1. In the Source field on the General tab of the Properties panel, specify the data source for the control:

    • Select this option and in the corresponding List field, press the Down Arrow key to select the property to use as the source of the events.

    Data page

    1. Select this option and in the corresponding Data page field, press the Down Arrow key to select the data page to use as the source of the events.

    2. If the data page has parameters, press the Down Arrow key in the Value fields to specify the values that you want to pass to the data page.

  2. Set the Visibility option to determine when the timeline is displayed.

    • Select Always to display the timeline unconditionally.

    • Select Condition (expression) to make the visibility dependent on an expression. In the field that is displayed, select a condition or click the Open condition builder icon to open the Using the Condition Builder to configure dynamic UI actions..

    • Select Condition (when rule) to make the visibility dependent on a when condition rule. Click the Open icon to create a when condition or review an existing one.

    • If you selected an expression or a When rule, select the Reserve space when hidden check box to reserve space on the screen when the timeline is hidden.

  • Timeline controls

In constructing a user form, you can add a Timeline control so that application users can view events along a horizontal timeline. The timeline can have a start date and an optional end date that restrict the events that are displayed.
