Spell checker

Updated on December 13, 2022
Applicable to Theme Cosmos applications

Pega Platform includes an industry-standard tool that flags spelling mistakes. When you provide your users with a spell checker, you reduce input errors, and make the user experience more efficient.

By default, every application includes dictionaries for English, French, German, and Spanish but you can expand the language set as needed by adding more languages and dialects.

Out-of-the-box dictionaries

Pega Platform includes dictionaries that support the following languages and dialects:

  • en-US locale for American English
  • en-CA locale for Canadian English
  • en-GB locale for British English
  • fr locale for French (France)
  • de locale for German (pre- and post-Reformation)
  • es locale for Spanish

To support additional languages, you can acquire dictionaries from Wintertree Software. You upload dictionaries into the rules in your application, and then configure them by accessing the spell checker rules in the SysAdmin section of the Records menu.

  • Extending the spell checker to other languages

Ensure correct spelling and diversify the scope of the spell checker in the rich text editors (RTEs) in your application, by defining additional supported locales.

  • Enabling adding words to the spell checker dictionary

Give your users more agency to manage their application dictionary by providing them with tools to add new words to the spell checker. This flexible approach improves the experience of users who frequently write longer texts, and reduces their frustration.
