Configuring file size options for the Attach content control

Updated on December 13, 2022
Applicable to Theme Cosmos applications

Improve data transfer times by limiting the maximum size of images and videos that users of mobile applications attach to cases. For example, you can conserve bandwidth when a mobile app synchronizes with the server by adjusting the attachment compression parameters, such as the video clip format and duration, or the maximum image size and quality.

Before you begin: Add the Attach content control to the layout. For more information, see Adding UI components to a view.
By adjusting the attachment compression parameters you limit the size of files that are transferred between a mobile device and the server. When you select the Infinite option for any of the parameters, files are attached in their original format or length, which results in increased data transfer. Files of lower resolution, shorter duration, or lower quality, all help reduce the file size and boost data transfer. The settings apply when a user records a new video or takes a new photo, but do not apply to pre-recorded media. Media files are compressed on user devices before users upload them to the server.
Note: Due to the different memory limitations of different user devices, you might not be able to successfully attach large files even when you limit the maximum file size.
  1. Open the view with the control that you want to edit.
For more information, see Accessing views in your application.
  2. In the configuration pane on the right side of the window, hover over the control, and then click the Edit icon.
  3. On the General tab, in the Mobile app attachment compression section, in the Video max size field, select one of the following options:
    • To upload the clip in its original resolution, select Infinite.
    • To convert the clip to a specific resolution, select the appropriate option. For example, 1080p.
  4. In the Video max duration field, select one of the following options:
    • To upload the clip in its original length, select Infinite.
    • To crop the clip to a specific length, select the appropriate option. For example, 30 seconds.
  5. In the Image max diameter field, select one of the following options:
    • To upload the clip in its original size, select Infinite.
    • To resize the image proportionally to a specific size, select the appropriate option. For example, limit the width to 2560 pixels.
  6. In the Image max quality field, select one of the following options:
    • To upload the clip in its original quality, select Lossless.
    • To compress the image to a specific quality, select the appropriate option. For example, Medium.
