What's new in Process Commander V5.3 - Rule-Driven Research
Released in July 2007, Process Commander V5.3 offers dozens of new capabilities for developers, application users, and system administrators, and resolves issues found in earlier versions. For an overview, see What's new in Process Commander 5.3.
New capabilities known as declarative pages provide developers with the ability to create simpler flow rules that are built for change. These eliminate the need to use integration shapes in flows.
A new rule type, Rule-Declare-Pages, supports the use of declarative pages either globally by node, or locally by user thread.
- Declarative pages are read-only to all requestors. Node-level declarative pages are shared memory across all requestors on that node (that have appropriate RuleSet access to the page)..
- The system determines when information on the page needs to be refreshed.
- The Integrator shape is no longer needed in flow rules, as data from an external system can be retrieved onto a declarative page only when needed, not each time a flow execution reaches the shape.
For example, a single declarative page containing currency exchange rates could be refereshed once each minute from an external database that contains real-time data. Only one page containing this data is present in memory (per node).
On the Clipboard tool display, declarative pages appear in a separate section.
